Read Time: < 1 minute

Ronnie Ashmore is an author of westerns, and crime fiction. He also has a non-fiction police leadership book available now !

Are you happy about being an Author?

I am extremely pleased with where I am so far. I hope to have continuing success as a story teller and author. It has been a fun journey I should have started long ago.

What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?

My motivation is simply to entertain and maybe teach some things that readers may not have known before, but mostly entertain. I have learned that the process is more complex than I thought starting out.

As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?

My writings, whether crime or western, strive for realism. I want the reader to be in the story not separate from the events.

Which book or e-books have you published and which are in pipeline?

My first novel is called Family Secrets, it is part of the Colby PD series. The non-fiction is called Lessons on Leadership: Leading behind the Badge, about police leadership as that is my background. I have a western due out in a few weeks called Last Stand for a Bad Man.

What's your advice for budding authors?

I have none, because I don’t feel I have had enough success yet to give advice.

Do you believe in "Writer's Block"?

No. I believe if the story is there it should be available for the telling. I think if you live with an idea long enough before you write you can overcome the obstacles. I don’t believe in writer’s block but I do believe sometimes the story is harder to write than you first thought.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

For the self published aspect of the journey, it can be time consuming as well as expensive to turn out a quality product. I was not prepared fully for that.

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?

Crime fiction because the dynamics of a case interest me. Westerns because the old west has fascinated me since childhood.

If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?

Start now, don’t wait.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?

I want to be original and give my stories a sense of reality even if it is fiction.
