AN INTERVIEW WITH REVATI KHUTWAD

Read Time: < 1 minute

Revati Khutwad is a complete Mumbaikar. She loves to read, write, and go bonkers with her 5 year old son Riaan. She is a simple person who finds happiness in the smallest of things.

Are you happy about being an Author?

I have never felt happier than this in my entire life. I am a voracious reader and the feeling of holding your own book in your hand is ecstatic. I cannot describe that feeling in words. Now I feel that I’m on my life path and I’m leaving behind a legacy for my son.

What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?

Books connect with people at a very different level. A book has the power to make the reader experience a roller coaster of emotions, and I write for my readers. That is my biggest motivation and this is my learning as well.

As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?

My stories bring out the harsh reality of life but, it also focuses on that one silver lining which most of us miss out. Everyone struggles in their lives but, you will always find a ray of hope to keep you going.

Which book or e-books have you published and which are in pipeline?

I have published my debut book ‘The World Is Her Oyster’ a collection of short stories based on nine strong women and their life experiences.

What's your advice for budding authors?

Please do not give up on your book. No matter what anyone says, write to fulfill your dream. Trust me, nothing can match that feeling of holding your own book in your hand. Your heart will swell with pride and you have to experience it to believe it.

Do you believe in "Writer's Block"?

100 percent. It happens to every single writer at some point of writing journey. The best way to deal with it is to take a small break and get back with a clear frame of mind.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

Should I be honest? A zillion problems! Right from writing the book to writer’s block, to procrastination, worrying about book sales. You name it and I faced it! But, I never had an ounce of doubt on my book and the central idea behind it. That is the only thing that kept me going.

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?

I like to write contemporary fiction books based on real life incidents because I have seen that readers connect the most to someone else’s pain as they empathize with them and relate to them. I’m that kind of a person. So, my genre will always be something based on real life experiences.

If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?

Why didn’t you start earlier? Why did you wait this long to get here?

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?

As I mentioned in the previous question, my books will always have a hint of reality in them even if it is harsh. But, I will never leave a chance to motivate my readers by showing them a way to deal with the difficult situation.
