Author Interviews

AN INTERVIEW WITH PREMA JOY

Read Time: < 1 minute

Are you happy about being an Author?

I love writing and being an Author. It’s so gratifying when people read my words and love my books. It’s a great way to express myself and to appeal to my reader and inspire and connect with them. I love it when people read my work and relate to it. It’s humbling and fulfilling.

What's your motivation as an author ?

My motivation is to share my thoughts, expression and words with others in order to connect and maybe make a difference to another person’s life. To paint a picture that others can relate to.

As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?

I get to evoke emotions and a response from my reader. My reader can identify with me and maybe it will inspire them to “go for it” or to take a chance, feel their fear and do it anyway.

See something from a different angle or make them laugh or cry or move them in some way. And for them to feel the joy of reading a good story. I love reading myself.

Which book or e-books have you published and which are in pipeline?

Heartwork – Living on a Prayer. This book is fiction but based on my real-life experiences and people in my life. It’s my own story of losing faith in myself and God at an early age and my journey of discovering that God isn’t what I thought, and that I can trust myself and my intuition, tuning into my heart and letting go of fear.

A journey from the head to the heart and self-love along the way. Its set in Tuscany which is the fictional bit, and has a romantic flavor as well as wisdom and teaching.

Change Makers Vol 5, is a collaborative book I did with 20 other women. We each tell our story and through sharing inspire and make a difference in the world. I tell my own raw story of living in Domestic Violence and going from surviving to thriving.

What's your advice for budding authors?

Don’t wait to get it right. Just write anyway. Let your words flow without having to make sense of all of it. There are plenty of people who can help you to format and edit it. YOU have to start with your own words. Trust that you can do it.

How do you fight out a "Writer's Block"?

I don’t “fight” writers block as I don’t think fighting anything helps. There are times when I feel uninspired and I usually connect in with Nature and write about what I am grateful for. This clears my head of the fear and doubt and I can write freely again.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

Self judgement and self-criticism. Thinking that I had get it perfect, that I had to be good enough. When I just wrote for myself and didn’t worry about who I was writing for it was easier.

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?

Auto biographical – fiction/Romance. I like to write stories based on my real-life experiences and based on real characters.

What does your typical writing day look like ?

I get up early and write until it stops, usually in bed. Sometimes that’s all day, sometimes it till afternoon. I am usually famished when I am finished.
