AN INTERVIEW WITH JOEL SADHANAND

Read Time: < 1 minute

Joel Sadhanand is an L&D professional who decided to take up writing to reach out to people. He binges on books about behavioral science, technology and economics. He endeavors to share useful snippets of learning though powerful and engaging stories.

Are you happy about being an Author?

I am more than thrilled. There are, approximately, 3.6 billion people use social media. It’s a chance for me to connect with as many people as possible. Even if I can make a difference in the lives of 0.1% of the population, that will be huge! What can be more satisfying than steering people through an emotional rollercoaster through your words and influencing their thoughts positively.

What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?

I believe that the things that one creates can continue to help, inspire and support people long after one is gone. I want to help people to think better and feel better through my books.
I learnt a lot about myself since the time I started writing. I realized that I unconsciously dump my ideas, beliefs, and patterns into the lives of the characters I create. Retrospectively, I have stretched my personality and manner of thinking to enable me to create characters that appeal to the masses and not just to myself. Here is an example; If I were a very religious man then my characters are going to pro religion or look down upon atheists.

As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?

I write quick and micro small stories, lesser than 10 sentences with the tag
microstories, #tinythrillers.

Which book or E-books have you published and which are in pipeline?

I’ve just published a novel called – The Unexpected Leader. It’s a techno-political-corporate thriller.
Ajith, the CEO of India’s biggest coffee house – Good Morning Inc., suddenly looses control over his company because of an unexpected disaster in one of his coffee shops. Neha, a young assistance manger suddenly become the CEO of a company overnight. A company where there are no mangers.

Behind the scenes, is the Prime Minister of India who wants something from both of the characters as he plots a master scheme and a tech startup, who pitch a crazy idea to Ajith: Fire all the mangers and replace them with artificially intelligent robots.
The story is set in the backdrop of an announcement made by WHO that the world is about to be struck by a fast-moving respiratory pandemic.

Will Neha survive the CEO’s job. Will Ajith uncover who was behind the plot and regain his company. Is it really possible for a company to use AI, instead of human mangers to lead the workforce? What does the Prime Minister really want from all of them?
This is the link to purchase the novel.

My next book is a set of thrilling horror stories. 9 stories from 9 different countries. 9 Different urban legends. 9 different ghastly narratives all with the same intent: to instigate a fear of the dead.
The book is titled; Necrophobia, the fear of the dead.

Do you believe in "Writer's Block" ?

Yes, I do and I also believe in the writer’s release. It’s all about grit.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

Self-doubt

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?

I write pure fiction short thrillers and thrillers based on techno-management concepts.

If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?

I would say “Thank you”, to my younger self because he spent many years exploring different experiences, challenging different beliefs and of course making many mistakes and learning from them. His past actions have culminated to this point, where I am able to put down my thoughts very distinctively.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?

I, always attempt to write original stuff but definitely listen to feedback from readers. The genre that I am keen to work on is ‘non -fiction thriller narratives’, where people can experience the thrill of uncovering a suspense and also learn something important that benefits them.

What's your advice for budding authors?

Write everyday and review what you write every day.
