AN INTERVIEW WITH DAVID BLAIR
David Blair’s first story was a student film called “Destination Destiny”. He most recently worked as a production supervisor for EnterAktion Studios, on a feature length motion picture called “Dwegons and Leprechauns’’. His favorite writers are Rod Sterling and Charles Dickens.
What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?
Telling the most original and unique stories possible. There are so many same old stories told over and over again. What have I learned? Hmmm, that telling a well written, captivated tale is not an easy task, by any stretch of the imagination.
As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?
Hope, endurance, belief in one’s self. The fact that original and unique stories can still be created.
Which book or E-books have you published and which are in pipeline?
“Dragons in the Clouds” is available now. Although, I do have a new cover with a new edit being relaunched soon. I also have a crime drama titled “Meaner than the Devil”. It’s about revenge and redemption. A young boy whom was abused vows revenge on all society for not protecting himself and his sister against their abusive father.
Do you believe in "Writer's Block" ?
Yes, I do. My angle at tackling it, is I write a twenty-page treatment of the entire story. There is where I work and fix plot holes
What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?
Marketing is a problem, getting on the word out. You can have the greatest story ever told. But if no one knows about it. You understand the dilemma don’t you.
What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?
I let the story pick the genre. I have written a western, a couple contemporary crime dramas and of course a fantasy adventure.
If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?
Trust in your abilities more, to always work hard. To trust your instincts more. Intuition is very powerful and accurate. Believe it or not
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?
Originality is the only thing for me.
What's your advice for budding authors?
To never ever give up. The most important word in the English language is ‘’Try’’. As long as you try, you will never be a failure. Also have a plan, a formula. I start my writing projects with an outline, a standard twenty-page treatment of the entire story, from beginning to end.
