AN INTERVIEW WITH KERRY GORDON
I am a Jamaican American author, with a degree in Psychology. I am also a freelance writer and I have over 15 years experience working in Hospitality, Property Management, and Theme Park as an Administrative Assistant. I am an avid tea drinker, and I love trying foods from different cultures.
Are you happy about being an Author?
I love being able to create stories, and enjoy the art of storytelling. But being an author is not without its difficulties. Being an author/writer is definitely something you have to love or have a passion for, as there are countless rejections, criticism, competition and work that goes into being an author that you have to deal with.
What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?
My motivation as an author is self expression. Writing is my form of expression and how I communicate my thoughts and ideas. From writing books, I ve learned that you have to believe and have confidence in what you write, or your story, because writing is subjective and your may not appeal to everyone, but that does not mean your work is not good. Just as there are different genres of movies or music, writing is the same. There is something for everyone.
As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?
I like to capture the emotions and feelings of the characters I am writing about. Maybe its my psychology background , but I like to delve into expressing the characters emotions . I want the reader to feel the emotions the characters are going through, whether that is frustration, confusion, happiness, pleasure and so on.
Which book or E-books have you published and which are in pipeline?
My novel Blind Sky, fantasy/sci fiction was published in 2014. I have the rights back to the book, so still figuring out what I want to do next with it. My e-book Threaded Web, a romance novel with heavy adult content is on book rix and is free to download on multiple devices for free.
What’s your advice for budding authors? If you truly believe in your work, keep going.
Do you believe in "Writer's Block" ?
If you truly believe in your work, keep going.
Do you believe in “Writer’s Block”? Yes. I believe Writer’s Block exist, especially if you have to write on a deadline. I write best creatively, meaning having the story or characters guide me.
What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?
For me, it would be marketing. I am a behind the scenes type of person, but in order to get your work out there, you have to put it out there. So I ve been working on building my platform and being more proactive in regards to getting and putting my work out to the public.
What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?
If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?
The journey will be long and hard, but don’t give up.
Where can people contact you ?
I can be contacted via email, Facebook, or Linkedin. I did have an Instagram for a short while, but I temporarily deactivated it. I needed a break from the various social media platforms. I know in today’s society its almost necessary, especially if you are building a brand or marketing, but I’ve never been huge on social media .

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?
I try to do a combination of both. I want to be creative and write what I am inspired to write, but I am also realistic that sometimes you have to give readers what they want, but in a way that you’re not comprising your too much. It’s a balance.
