AN INTERVIEW WITH ANDREW UNDERWOOD
My wife and I are Co-Authors for our book spider gang books series. (Secret of 8, and The Wandering)
Are you happy about being an Author?
Yes in fact if our dream is to be full time authors, travel, write our stories and visit our fans and we have been told that our stories would someday be turned into a movie. That is exciting!!!
What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?
My wife and I were both bullied as children as was our kids, In this day and age it has gotten worse, When we were younger we could go home and have a place of safety but now with all the social media outlets our kids can’t do that.
As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?
Our stories encourage the readers to really take a look at themselves. We promote Acceptance is better than tolerance, and that being different is okay. We promote anti-bullying. This is the message we want our readers to take away from our books.
Which book or E-books have you published and which are in pipeline?
We have written and published two books so far (Secret of 8 and The Wandering) we are currently working on our third book “Freaks to the Left) Secret of 8 is about a group of misfit kids whom are thrown into an paranormal mystery when Ben moves into a haunted house. We have found that readers as young as 10 – 12 as well as adults have loved the books so far.
Do you believe in a "Writer's Block" ?
Yes, it happens sometimes it happens because your mind just isn’t ready to give you the words you need. When that happens, read a book, take a walk in nature, eat some ice cream or a little bit of chocolate. Breath. Don’t give up when it is time it will happen. But be ready when it does.
What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?
Having the time to write, My wife and I have both worked full time jobs so you have to write when you have the time. Another obstacle we have faced is getting the word out there about our stories. We both love to write but the advertising and promotional aspect of it can be daunting.
What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?
We love the sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal with light Horror thrown to spice things up. Why do we love it, it lets us become and be through our stories things that we can’t or are scared to in real life.
If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?
Don’t pay attention to the adults that said “Get your head out of the clouds and stop daydreaming”

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?
We write what is in our minds, The stories are already there we just need to put them on paper. If others like it than it is a win – win.
What's your advice for budding authors?
Write every chance you get, write about your feelings, write about what scares you, write about what makes you happy. Then when you are ready to write your first story, write about what you know.
