AN INTERVIEW WITH BAILEY GEE
Bailey Gee is a creative writing graduate from George Brown College. She has published two books of poetry.
Are you happy about being an Author?
I love this question. Ive wanted to be an author since I was a little girl. I had dreams of my poetry being published in Chicken Soup for The Soul. To finally be living my dream, and changing the lives of people who read my books makes me the happiest. Nothing beats the feeling when someone tells you they related to your book or your book changed their life.
What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?
My motivation to write poetry all comes from my real life experiences. Everything I have experienced from birth until now, I use in my poetry. I find it very cathartic. I have learned so much during the writing process. I have learned that someone , somewhere needs your book, even if its not a best seller, your book is going to change the life of one person. For me, that is enough.
As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?
Which book or e-books have you published and which are in pipeline?
What's your advice for budding authors?
My advice for up and coming authors is simple; just do it. Write that paragraph, finish that manuscript. Send that query. Just do it. Yes it is daunting as hell , but you’ll never go anywhere if you stay in the same spot.
Do you believe in "Writer's Block"?
I don’t believe in writers block. I believe its all deep down inside you, you just have to find the inspiration to get it out. Its in there.
What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?
I write poetry about my experience living with depression, because its what I know, and its what comes easy to me. Its also very therapeutic.
If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?
If I could tell something to my younger self, it would be to not lose faith. Just hold on. All your writing will pay off one day.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?
I just try and be my authentic self. Not everyone is going to like what I create and that’s fine.
