AN INTERVIEW WITH ELLIE JAY
My pen name is Ellie Jay, I’m a 20-something’s student of creative writing from the UK.
As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?
I’m a sucker for happy endings when I write, so I think that my books will always be able to make someone happy when they read them.
Which book or e-books have you published and which are in pipeline?
My published book is the first ever novel I managed to stick at and write. It’s called ‘Family Secrets’ and follows the plight of a young woman striving to discover the secret of her father’s murder. I’m currently working on editing the sequel, in which she faces down the mafia. I have a short romance story about an immortal man and his reincarnating wife coming later this month, and two more ideas that I haven’t quite honed enough to share yet.
What's your advice for budding authors?
Just keep writing and never give up!
Do you believe in "Writer's Block"?
Yes! I’ve been there so many times. But I do believe it’s possible to overcome as well.
What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?
Unpleasant people are the biggest issue. From rude reviewers, scam artists and vanity publishers, they get you down easily. I think I’m a stronger person for dealing with them though, they taught me the strength to recognize and ignore them.
What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?
To tell the truth, I’m terrible at genres. My book mixes several – mystery, crime, drama, action, sci-fi. All the ones I find most exciting. That’s why I chose them.
If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?
Keep going.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?
I’d like to be original. It does make it hard to find readers though.
