AN INTERVIEW WITH MAYA

Read Time: 2 minutes

Please mention A few punchlines from your book !

My name is Maya Miernik and I believe in self-love, acceptance and growth.

Are you happy about being an Author? Feel free to write your biography and pour your heart out here 🙂

I am so happy about becoming an author. I am a school teacher and a mother to biracial children. My story is about a typical struggle of biracial children to love an accept themselves as they are. As an African American, I’ve always struggled with accepting the fact that I was beautiful just as I was. I have finally come into my own, and want to help others as much as possible.

What’s your inspiration as an author?

My inspiration is my daily life for my children’s books. I have some other books in the works, that will be related to the themes of haircare, self-love and growth which are all based on my experiences.

What are the best things or positive things about your stories?

My stories are relatable, fun for children, and highlight diversity in a positive manner.

Which book or books have you published and which are in pipeline? (( You can also write about each of them if you wish to)

I’ve published a book named, “Karina’s Curly Crown.” I’m working on a book named, “Karina’s Cozy Corner.”

How to deal with a “Writer’s Block”?

For me I start writing about a different topic and circle back to my original topic once I feel inspired to.

Any “Top tips” for writers starting out?

Just write. Research, and write some more.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

I’m self-published so I am learning many new skills. Converting documents from one format to the other is complicated, and time consuming. Marketing is also very time consuming, but I enjoy growing in my skills and abilities.

How did you approach the writing process? Do you have a set routine or does it vary?

I wrote when the inspiration hit me. I did make a plan to write at least 20 – 30 minutes each day. Children’s books are not super difficult to write.

For you, what makes a great story?

A great story draws you in, and makes you feel what the characters feel.

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it?

So far, I have created children’s books. Children’s books are fun and short. I have small children at home, so I am attuned to that age group.

Where can people contact you?

A final parting word of advice?

If you want to do it, just do it.
