AN INTERVIEW WITH MELISSA BETTS
My name is Melissa Betts
I’m from Ontario, I am a stay-at-home wife and mother of three children.
What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?
COVID-19 pandemic became my motivation. Being stuck inside during lockdown with really not much to do at that point so I thought why do something that I loved to do when I was younger and that was writing.
And I really learned a lot, that it wasn’t just about sitting down writing a book, it was copywriting to finding the right book cover, the editing, formatting and the research that all came with it.
Any advice for budding authors?
To write as often as you can, and to never give up on your dreams.
Do you believe in a "Writer's Block"?
Yes, I believe in writer’s block, as I tend to get it sometimes, and when I do I step away from my work and focus on other things like housework or take a bath to help clear my mind. Works every time.
What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?
I would say it be the formatting and the editing are the biggest problems that I’ve had to deal with.
What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?
I wrote a paranormal werewolf romance novel because I like werewolves and the history it tells. I find it to be very fascinating.
If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?
If I could tell my younger self anything it would be that I should have started writing a lot sooner.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?
I try to be original it’s what makes me stand out from the rest and I find it to be important to try to put a piece of myself in my books whether it be a bit of humor. By doing that I think It gives the readers idea of what the authors like.
