AN INTERVIEW WITH ROBERT
- Please mention Your Name and a few lines of what you believe in OR you can also add few punchlines from your book!
I publish under my full name, Robert Lloyd Russell, since Bob Russell is a very common name. I write exclusively in Christian non-fiction and have won 11 book awards. My career experience which I carry over to my writing is reducing complex topics to simple to understand topics. My writing has been described as “Living Theology and Dynamic Discipleship.”
- Are you happy about being an Author?
I am very content to be writing. I have a calling from God to write and I write for an audience of One. What He does with my writing is up to Him. I am a success if I do what He directs me to do.
- What’s your inspiration as an author?
This relates closely to the previous answer. Throughout my life I have had a variety of experiences and right now I know I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.
- What are the best things or positive things about your stories?
First, writing helps me clarify my own understanding of the topic. Second, I receive great satisfaction when my writing helps even one individual in the life on earth and their understanding of the spiritual dimension of life.
- Which book or books have you published and which are in pipeline? (You can also write about each of them if you wish to)
I have four books in print from a few years back. All my books appear on my website http://www.BOOKSrlr.com That site also provides an opportunity to signup for my monthly Newsletter.
Currently I am publishing four eBooks per year – some of which are updates/revisions of the print books. This is a list of my eBooks:
“Christian Concepts Series (Timeless Truths * Contemporary Perspectives)” – Analogies…
- “God’s Church: Christ’s Pearl “(based on Matt. 13:45-46 about The Church)
- “God’s Nature: Sonlight—Sunlight” (based on1 John 1:5 about The Christ)
- “God’s Child: Like a Tree” (based on Psalm 1:3 about The Christian)
Missions…
- “Jim Elliot: Recorded Messages” (transcribed messages given by this martyr)
“Christian Growth Series (Simple Steps * On-Going Progress)” – Christian Life
- “God’s Desire: How To Please God” (how to know what God wants you to do)
- “God’s Light: How To Respond” (compares reaction of physical and humans to light)
- “Christ’s Disciple: How To Finish Strong” (progressive steps in sustained growth) to be released in April 2021
“Christian Theology Series (Inspirational * Practical Theology)” – the next series
- How to deal with a “Writer’s Block”?
Writer’s block has never been a problem for me. Instead, my problem is finding enough time to write. Perhaps one of the reasons is that I am always working simultaneously on multiple books and it is easy to switch which one I am working on.
- Any “Top tips” for writers starting out?
They need to be aware that only a tiny percentage of authors make a lot of money from their writing and that writing and publishing are the easy parts. The difficult aspect of being an author is marketing and sales. The bottom line is that if you don’t have to write I suggest that you don’t write.
- What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?
Mainly finding enough time to write all the books I would like to write.
- How did you approach the writing process? Do you have a set routine or does it vary?
It varies a lot. I write best when I know I have a significant block of time – at least a few hours. But I don’t have a fixed schedule.
- For you, what makes a great story?
This question may not directly apply to me since I write non-fiction. But what makes a good book for me is reader comments that make it all worthwhile. Two examples I have received are “I wish I had read this 30 years ago.” “I’m going to re-read this book every couple of years.”
- What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it?
I write exclusively Christian non-fiction and have 11 book awards. It isn’t so much a choice of why I chose that genre as it is a passion and drive to write in that genre.
- Please upload pictures of your book or books so that we can feature them with your details. If you wish, you can add your picture too (Optional)
See attached and in follow-up emails (since large emails are not always delivered).
- Where can people contact you?
My author email is rlr@BOOKSrlr.com
- A final parting word of advice?
Follow your passion. Don’t expect your book to be highly appealing to everyone. Any review, even a bad one, is good since it means someone has read your book. Also consider that a book that has 50 reviews and all are 5-star is somewhat suspicious to many potential readers.
