AN INTERVIEW WITH T.L SHIVELY

Read Time: < 1 minute

I write YA Fantasy books that can be read from children of all ages. Nine years old to ninety. I have pretty much been a big kid most of my life, I love fantasy of all types. I am a wife, mother, gamer, artist, crafter, writer and so much more. I work in the construction field and I do enjoy my job but writing is a passion that has always been with me.

Are you happy about being an Author?

Very, it is hard work but I feel worth it.

What's your motivation as an author and what have you learnt from writing books?

My motivation is to write the story that is always in my head. I have learned how to deal with rejections and how not to give up.

As an author , what do you think are the positive things about your writings?

My stories are meant to be an escape from reality while entertaining you. If you take anything away from my stories I hope that it is enjoyment as well as understanding it is teamwork that gets the job done.

Which book or E-books have you published and which are in pipeline?

Seven teenagers who become the Guardians of Sanctuary to protect the magical world inside of Sanctuary as well as the world on the outside. Who are they protecting it from? The Shadow Master and his minions. Will they survive unlike the past Guardians before them? If they have anything to say about it they will, with some help from some of their new friends. Come take a ride with the Sanctuary Guardians on their journey as they discover adventure, mystery and possibly the answer to who they truly are.
Book one is The Secret Sanctuary where the Guardians discover their destiny, their magic and the fact that their lives just got shortened by a prophecy. Read as they clumsily learn their magic and master the crystal Crims in their battle with the Shadow Master’s minions. They learn all about this new world and make some new friends where they least expected it.

Book two is The Town That Time Forgot and in this book you will see the Guardians attempting to balance living normal lives and being the Sanctuary Guardians. They want to go to school like normal kids, use their powers to get some paybacks on the head cheerleader who always went out of her way to give them grief, oh wait, that isn’t quite so normal is it? Well, maybe they just wanted the illusion of normalcy. That wasn’t in their cards either as a concert sent them on a quest to a town that was cursed in time and a dragon that refused to let them leave. Read as the Guardians must discover a way to break the curse or be trapped in the town as well.

Book three is The Battle of Sleeping Lady and here the Guardians travel from the lower 48 to the wilds of Alaska where they discover a different type of Sanctuary hidden beneath the water of the Prince William Sound with a different set of rules than they are used to. Here in Alaska it is the mythicals way and the Arions are the ones who have to follow the rules. Doesn’t sound too bad, until the pixie princess is captured by the shadows who were being commanded by a woman in a dark cloak. Their purpose? To waken the Sleeping Lady, an Alaskan legend that was just thought to be a myth. If this myth were to waken, Alaska could end up a frozen wasteland.

Before Telara and her friends discovered they were the Guardians of Sanctuary, Claw was trying to find a way to prove that Sanctuary didn’t need the fabled Guardians. Traveling to Alaska Claw discovered a means to help in their battle against the shadows. Can Claw make his point before he causes a diplomatic disaster? Come see how our red-headed Scotsman manages to keep his head attached when there are others who would love to see it rolling.

Do you believe in "Writer's Block" ?

I do and have faced it many times.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

My first problem was a publisher who bit off more than she could chew, she published my book then when it came to my questions about future books or my royalties, communication became scarce

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it ?

Fantasy. I have always loved fantasy.

If you could tell something to your younger writing self , what would it be ?

To never give up, to believe more in yourself. Not to worry so much what others think.

Where can people contact you ?

Click here to contact me !

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want ?

I believe in fantasy with a twist, I want to entertain my readers with what they want but also to give them a twist they don’t expect. I like to mix the ordinary with the unique.

What's your advice for budding authors?

My best advice to keep trying, keep writing and listen to others. Join groups that align with the genre you are writing. If you write fantasy you join groups have to do with fantasy. There are also writer groups out there to help fellow writers, ask questions and keep an open mind.
