Author Interviews

AN INTERVIEW WITH VIOLETA M. BAGIA

Read Time: < 1 minute

Violeta is a Melbourne based author. She is currently represented by Vulpine Press and is completing her Masters in Art. Below are the questions I asked her to get to know her better!

Are you happy about being an Author?

Being an author is a dream come true, as cliché as that statement is. Being new to Australia, 6-year-old me decided that writing and reading was the best way to learn and integrate. Many years on, I’m still devouring whatever I can, learning all about language and how much it can inspire and encourage change. I’m currently completing my Master of Arts while working on the second book in my new YA trilogy which makes this my 9th book in total! Who needs sleep?

What's your motivation as an author?

The ability to tell a story and know that someone out there will dive into the world I dreamt up and created. Maybe they’ll think about the characters and put them into new worlds and scenarios.  That excites me and motivates me more than anything.

Which book or books have you published, and which are in pipeline?

*The Hart of Darkness series out now:
X-men meets James Bond – Ace Hart is a hero who not only possesses the power of the moon she’s a former military trained spy whose biggest mission is saving the world.

Ace of Hart
King of Hart
Queen of Hart
Jack of Hart: Wild Card
Royal Flush: The Final Hand

*2546: Harbinger of the Equinox Out now.
Tensions rise on the galaxy’s edge as the Royces’ battle for power and control tips in their favour.
Their thousand-year rule has seen a previously peaceful generation turn to violence and suffering. While the Harbinger of the Equinox lays dormant as the Last Stand struggles against the dominating force they realize they must awaken her.

*The Ceoran Chronicles: Trilogy due from late 2021
When the bridge linking our worlds is taken, the Karatoi deploy their best warriors—The Ceoran—and send them to Earth where they lay dormant, waiting for the One warrior who can end it all.

The Reaper’s Descent
Ceoran Rising
Redemption

*Andrea Nekić is Not Fine: Coming soon.
A gritty, coming of age drama set in Melbourne’s South East, Andrea Nekić finds that getting through year twelve is more than exams, prom and graduation. It’s learning how to live again and how to survive.

What's your advice for budding authors?

Write every day, remain disciplined and remember that every ‘overnight success’ takes a decade to reach. It’s not an easy job, but it’s very rewarding.

How do fight out a "Writer's Block" ?

I usually try to focus on something related to my work whether it’s research, looking up inspiration on Pinterest, i.e. character’s clothing, houses, cars etc. or even writing a few random scenes just to get back into my character’s head. I find this helps me stay in the world and remain motivated to keep the story going.

What are the problems that you have faced in your Author journey?

Some struggles are trying to tell the story I want to tell while also meeting publisher requirements as well as hitting the target in terms of my audience. There are certain conventions each genre has to meet in order to sell, however the line can quickly blur between writing a book full of cliches and being so different that no one wants to risk signing you. It’s been a challenge learning how to find that balance.

What Genre of Books do you create and Why you chose it?

I write across a few genres including sci-fi, young adult, new adult, dystopia and urban fantasy. I enjoy reading those types of stories so writing them was a natural transition for me.

What does your typical writing day looks like?

A typical day would be a minimum of 6 hours of writing or writing related activities per day. This can include research, interviewing, reading, searching up pictures or inspiration.

Where can people contact you?

My website has all the usual socials, feel free to reach out on any of those.

What can readers expect from your books?

Readers can expect strong female leads, women who fight for themselves and know how to fight. I found it important to portray characters who can look after themselves and fight for what is right. In a society where so much is horrible, showing strong girls are important now more than ever.
